It is so important to surround yourself with the right kind of people. By the ‘right kind’ I mean people who bring out the best in you, are encouraging and have your best interests at heart.
You first have to know yourself well, and this often comes with age.
I remember growing up, I wasn’t as comfortable in my own skin as I made out to be, and to be honest this was the case well into my mid-twenties.
It took me a while to realise that that I didn’t need to fit in if it didn’t ‘feel like’ me, and no one had any expectations for me to do so.
Moving away to another city brought this to light. Having to make new friends from scratch, forced me to think about the kind of people I wanted to be around, in the absence of having my family and close friends nearby.
At the beginning, I met plenty of people who wanted me along for the party, but there were no deep friendships forming.
Cut to now, I try to spend my time with those who bring out the best in me, and I hope that I bring out the best in them too.
So to you I say, if there are people in your life who:
Spend more time with them.
