Tis The Season To Be Wasteful

Over the festive we produce nearly a third more waste than usual.

I read that in food alone it is the equivalent of 263,000 turkeys; 7.5 million mince pies; 17.2 million Brussels sprouts; 740,000 slices of Christmas pudding; (and more shockingly to me), 11.3 million roast potatoes. Who would throw away a roast potato?!

What else…
Enough wrapping paper to wrap around the equator 9 times. We are buying paper we know will be torn and in the bin come Christmas day. Let that sink in.

Christmas cards. 1 billion of them end up in the bin when they could be recycled. Also, see above.

Two thirds of us recieve gifts we wont use. Would you tell the person you don’t like their gift? I would be more likely to stay silent, but re-gift it to someone who will like it.

Love to eat pickles or get pickled? That results in over 13000 tonnes of glass waste.

So let’s try to be more mindful and waste less this time around, and keep at it.

Orange creme anyone?
